I also developed a hidden security system strategy that I used in securing those homes. I used the safe-room retrofit kit concept successfully to harden several executive homes against kidnap. At the time, there were many kidnappings of petroleum executives and family members who were held for ransom. In 1976 I retrofitted the home of a petroleum executive who feared for the well-being of himself and his family. In 19 75-76, I Developed the first Safe-Room Construction Package to Thwart Kidnappings T he patents expired in 1992, maintaining JM's asphalt roofing market share two additional decades. (JM) who chose to shelf the project in order to prolong JM ’s control of the global asphalt roofing market. The patent rights to the roofing system and zipper were sold to Johns Mansville Corp. The zipper enabled roofing panels to be installed in any weather. I worked with Columbia Research Labs, duPont Chemicals, BF Goodrich, Cook Color and Chemical Company, Buildex Fastener Co., and several well established polymer compounding consultants, to create the first hypalon waterproof construction zipper. In 1972-1974, after obtaining a bachelor's degree in Physics, I worked as the lead developer with Herald Simpson, VP Engineering at Star Buildings, and Steven Ausnit, developer of the Do w Zip L ock bag.
